About us
Why we built another infrastructure company
Because the tools that already exist make shipping feel like filing paperwork — and we think that's a solvable problem.
What we do, plainly stated
Practice of Edinburgh is a Dallas-based infrastructure software company. We build and operate a deployment and environment orchestration platform aimed squarely at engineering teams that ship software frequently — multiple times a day, not once a quarter. Our platform handles the mechanics of getting code from a Git repository into a running production environment: building container images, caching artifacts, routing traffic, running health checks, and rolling back broken releases. We do not build product management tools, design systems, or analytics dashboards. We do one thing — make deployment fast and reliable — and we have spent every engineering hour since 2021 narrowing our focus to that single outcome. Our customers are typically companies with between four and sixty engineers who have outgrown their home-rolled deploy scripts but are not yet ready to dedicate a full platform team to Kubernetes configuration.
How we work and what we will not promise
The founding team came out of three years running platform engineering at a mid-size SaaS company in Dallas where they watched a twelve-person team lose entire sprints to deploy failures, rollback confusion, and environment drift. The company was incorporated in 2021 with six engineers and a narrow mandate: build the deployment layer that team wished they had. By the end of 2023 we had shipped over 140,000 production deploys across all customer organizations, with a platform-wide rollback rate under 2.1%. We are a micro-team — twelve people at the time of writing — and we are deliberate about staying small enough that every engineer knows every part of the codebase. What we will not promise: we are not a silver bullet for an organization that does not yet have a working CI/CD culture. If your team does not write tests, deployment speed will surface bugs faster, not prevent them. We are a tool that amplifies the habits your team already has — for better or worse. We work best with teams that already ship at least once a week and want to go faster, not teams that are trying to ship for the first time. The platform runs in our indigo-tech Dallas-region infrastructure, with automatic failover to a secondary region — but we do not yet offer on-premises or private cloud deployments. That is a deliberate choice, not an oversight, and it keeps our operational complexity low enough that a twelve-person team can keep a 99.9% uptime commitment.
“I appreciated that they were upfront that the platform isn't magic — it won't fix a team that doesn't write tests. That kind of honesty made me trust the rest of what they said. And the platform itself delivered exactly what they described.”
